Interdependence: Spring Juried Exhibition

On View: May 1 – 30, 2026

Interdependence — a Spring Juried Exhibition

Guest Juror: Susan Joy Share (Anchorage)

The Bear Gallery is located on the third floor of the Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts in Pioneer Park, 2300 Airport Way, Fairbanks, Alaska.

Admission to the Bear Gallery is free of charge and open to the public Monday–Saturday, noon–6 pm.

Presented in conjunction with Fairbanks Arts’ 60th anniversary year, Interdependence is a reflection on the relationships that sustain the arts in Interior Alaska: artists and audiences, mentors and emerging creators, volunteers and organizers, and the many cultural and creative networks that have supported artistic exchange over the past six decades. Just as ecosystems thrive through mutual support, the arts community grows through collaboration, generosity, and collective effort.

This exhibition invites artists to explore the many forms of interdependence—social, ecological, cultural, and creative.

Original work across painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, photography, glass, jewelry, and fiber will be accepted for consideration by this year’s guest juror, Susan Joy Share of Anchorage, AK.

Join Susan Joy Share for a free public Juror’s Talk on Monday, April 27 at 7:00 pm in the Blue Room on the third floor of the Centennial Center.

The First Friday opening reception takes place Friday, May 1, 5–7 pm, with awards announced at 6:00 pm.

About the Juror

Susan Joy Share is an Anchorage-based visual artist, bookbinder, and performer whose practice spans sculpture, painting, sewing, collage, and performance. She is perhaps best known for her large-scale kinetic book sculptures and wearable books — objects that unfold, morph, and transform into costumes, figures, and architectural forms, often activated through performance. Her work draws on the language of the book as a site of story, structure, memory, and movement, pushing the form into three-dimensional and embodied space.

Share spent twenty years working in book conservation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Historical Society, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art — a foundation that continues to inform her deep engagement with materials, craft, and the physical life of objects. Her work has been exhibited widely and is held in collections including the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Anchorage Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She is a recipient of a Rasmuson Foundation Artist Fellowship and has been recognized throughout her career for her contributions to the visual arts in Alaska and beyond.

Share brings to Interdependence a practice rooted in connection — between disciplines, materials, communities, and forms — making her an especially fitting juror for an exhibition built on the same themes. Learn more at susanjoyshare.com.
