Artist Talk with Nikki Kinne

Tuesday June 11, 2024 7-8 p.m. in the Bear Gallery

The Bear Gallery is located on the third floor of the Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts building in Pioneer Park, 2300 Airport Way, Fairbanks, Alaska.

This talk titled “Haphazard Play + Discipline = Creative Output” will explore how to encourage the creative process no matter the age of the person or the art form.   Primary points of reference will be digital images of works in progress from the “Paths Explored” show currently up in the Bear Gallery with Fairbanks Arts Association.

Nikki Kinne is an established artist in Fairbanks holding many awards and honors, including being chosen to design the 2010 Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival poster and being recognized as the 2011 Chamber of Commerce Artist of the Year. Her formal arts education was through Seattle Pacific University in 1973. She has delved into an array of media in visual arts, with her most recent process including creating quilted scrap fabric pieces inspired by her watercolor paintings. Her work is process based and reflected in the exhibition “Path’s Explored.”

“The exhibition is grouped around concepts of ‘causes and effects.’ The organizing theme highlights relationships between action or event and consequence or result. Major sections of the show have explanations regarding what was discovered, why a direction was taken, and what was learned in the process in retrospect. (I may not have known where I would end up when I started.)”
