Fairbanks Arts Association’s Literary Reading Series is back for 2020 and kicks off with a night of community connection! Come over to the Wandering Bear Gallery at 3501 Lathrop Street, Unit B for a night of literature with faculty from the UAF English Department. Daryl Farmer, Gerri Brightwell, Joe Holt and Sara Johnson will bring some of their original works to share with you! Come early to enjoy the artwork on view and stay after for conversation with the writers.

 

Sara Johnson

My current work explores trauma and its effects on both psychological and bodily identity. To this end, it is often intensely visceral, engaging a fascination with the body in various states or stages of destruction, annihilation, and reconfiguration.

 

Joe Holt

Joseph Holt studied in the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi. He has published creative and critical work in Gulf Coast, The Sun, The Saturday Evening Post, Prairie Schooner and elsewhere. His debut story collection, tentatively titled Golden Heart Parade, is forthcoming from Sante Fe Writers Project in Fall 2021. Holt’s fiction often explores the complex Midwestern psyche by profiling emotional landscapes that reflect the vast and treacherous physical terrain.

 

Daryl Farmer

Daryl Farmer is the author of two books: Bicycling beyond the Divide, a nonfiction narrative that chronicles a bicycle ride across the US West, and Where We Land a collection of short fiction. His recent work has appeared in a variety of literary journals including Ploughshares, After the Art, and Whitefish Review. He is an associate professor at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he serves as director of the creative writing program.

 

Gerri Brightwell

Gerri Brightwell is a British writer who lives in Alaska with her husband, fantasy writer Ian C. Esslemont, and their three sons. She is the author of the novels Dead of Winter (Salt, 2016), The Dark Lantern (Crown, 2008), and Cold Country (Duckworth, 2003). Her short work has appeared in many venues including The Best American Mystery Stories 2017, Alaska Quarterly Review, Southwest Review, Copper Nickel, Redivider, and BBC Radio 4’s Opening Lines. She teaches in the creative writing program at UAF. She’ll be reading from her short story, “Huldremose.”
