Fairbanks Arts is pleased to present an outdoor literary reading with Christine Byl and Erica Watson! This free event will start at 5:30 pm at the Pioneer Park Gazebo near Gold Rush Town.
Christine Byl is the author of Dirt Work: An Education in the Woods, a book about trail crews, tools, wildness, gender, and labor. It was shortlisted for the 2014 Willa Award in nonfiction. Her fiction and essays have appeared in Glimmer Train Stories, The Sun, Crazyhorse and Brevity, among many other journals and anthologies. She has made her living as a professional trail-builder for the past 25 years, and owns/operates a trail contracting company, Interior Trails LLC. She lives with her family in Interior Alaska on the lands of the Dene, where she spends time on cabin and land projects, exploring wild places, watching birds and creatures, and anything that happens in the snow.
Erica Watson lives on the boundary of Denali National Park. She earned her MFA in creative nonfiction at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2014. Her writing focuses on community, climate change, and human interactions with natural and built environments, and has appeared in several print and online publications in recent years. She works remotely for a Fairbanks-based nonprofit, and spends her free time hiking, skiing, knitting, gardening, and embracing the seasonal cycles of a rapidly changing world.
