This year’s Spring Juried Exhibition is Vivid! Juried by Anchorage-based artist Amy Meissner, the show features pieces created by Interior Alaskan artists that respond to the concept of “Vivid.” Come by the gallery to view nearly 50 artworks including painting, photography, fiber work, movement art, ceramics, printmaking, book art, and so much more.
According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, definitions of vivid include:
- Of a color : very strong : very high in chroma
- Having the appearance of vigorous life or freshness : lively
- Producing a string or clear impression on the senses : sharp, intense specifically : producing distinct mental images

Bear Gallery visitors please note:
Entering the building: Until further notice, the south entrance of the Centennial Center (facing the main parking lot) will be closed to the public. In an effort to reduce the amount of traffic through the building, visitors must use the north doors (those facing the carousel and playground).
COVID-19 mitigation measures: Fairbanks Arts’ board of directors has approved COVID-19 mitigation measures that include (but are not limited to):
- Visitors to the Bear Gallery must wear a mask. We ask that visitors bring their own masks, but should a visitor be without one, we have a limited supply of volunteer-crafted masks we can give out. No entry without a mask.
- Social distancing of no less than 6ft apart must be observed within the Bear Gallery.
- The current limit of visitors in the gallery at one time is 10 individuals.
- Our COVID-19 mitigation plan involves the frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces to ensure the safety of our guests, volunteers, and staff.

Juror: Amy Meissner
Anchorage-based artist Amy Meissner’s studio practice combines traditional handwork, found objects and abandoned textiles to reference the literal, physical and emotional work of women. Her social practice includes teaching clothing and textile repair as acts of prolonging and care. She holds undergraduate degrees in both art and textiles, an MFA in Creative Writing, and is currently a Northern Research Lab Fellow at the Anchorage Museum, researching Northern Repair Culture congruent with graduate work in Critical Craft Studies at Warren Wilson College in South Carolina.
