The Annual 64th Parallel Juried Exhibition occurs in October. Artists may submit works in the mediums of ceramics, drawing, fiber, jewelry, mixed-media, painting, printmaking,  sculpture, photography, and video. Fairbanks Arts holds annual juried exhibitions to showcase new work by Interior Alaska artists. Fairbanks Arts is pleased to invite a guest juror from outside of Alaska to judge the artwork submitted for 64th Parallel. The 2017 juror is Emily Nachison of Portland, Oregon.

Awards are presented during the First Friday opening reception. Awards with cash prizes include:

  • Juror’s Choice: $125
  • Second Place: $100
  • Third Place: $75
  • Jared Baker “Gutsy Art Award”:$75

Submission Information

Artists may submit up to 4 pieces of their original artwork. Entries must be submitted by the artist. Artwork must have been completed within the last two years and not previously exhibited in the Bear Gallery.

Entry fee is $5 per entry. (Current Fairbanks Arts members receive a fee waiver on the third entry!)

Only artists residing in the Interior of Alaska, Doyon Region are eligible.

JUROR’S LECTURE  by EMILY NACHISON

Each year the juror of 64th Parallel gives a public lecture about their art, process and career as an artist. Please join us for Emily Nachison’s lecture on Monday, October 2, 7pm in the Blue Room (3rd floor of the Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts, Pioneer Park, 2300 Airport Rd). This event is free and open to the public.

Emily Nachison, born in San Diego, California, received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2006 and a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2010. She is now the Fiber Department Chair and an Assistant Professor at the Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon. Nachison has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in multiple group shows across the country at venues such as the Museum of Contemporary Craft (Portland, OR), Disjecta Contemporary Art Center (Portland, OR), New Mexico State University Art Gallery (Las Cruces, NM), and University of Nevada Sheppard Contemporary (Reno, NV). In 2016 she was an Artist-in-Residence at Wassaic Artist Residency in New York state, and the Kutztown University Marlin and Regina Miller Art Gallery in Pennsylvania. She has lectured at the American Craft Council in Minneapolis; the Portland Art Museum (in Oregon; Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; and Rochester Institute of Technology School for American Crafts in New York.
