How Not To Die Hunting in Alaska

Ronald L. Smith

How not to die hunting in Alaska_Ron Smith

EVERYONE, from big-game hunter to outdoors enthusiast on the couch, will laugh at the exploits Ron Smith and his friends get into in their search for wild meat. You might even find yourself nodding as Ron recounts stupidities in the field that strike just a bit too close to home.

Better than a cat, Ron has lived through more than a dozen near-death experiences in search of game, and he gives you this book to keep you from stretching your luck. This book is not simply hilarious with its “Why would you ever do anything like that?”-comments and Jeanne Mars Armstrong’s hilarious cartoons, it also gives you solid advice.

The experienced might pick up pointers for more successful hunting. The novices will start smart by learning from Ron’s mistakes – and live to tell their own tales!

About the Author:

Ronald Smith is an emeritus professor of biology at University of Alaska Fairbanks. He retired after 31 years of teaching and research in Alaska. Along the way, he spent time hunting, camping and accumulating experiences. How Not to Die Hunting in Alaska describes some of those experiences in a humorous way while offering useful advice.

Ron cites two reasons for writing the book. First, he wanted the stories preserved for family members. Second, he hates wasting time and can’t sleep on airplanes. Each chapter was written on a flight to or from Fairbanks. He hopes you enjoy the stories.
