Fairbanks Arts has turned 50! Please join us to celebrate 50 years of service to Interior Alaska at the Fairbanks Arts Gala: Golden Anniversary Celebration fundraiser event on Saturday, May 6 2017. It will be an evening of food, friends, music and Fairbanks Arts and we ask two things of you: Come prepared to bid on fun auction prizes and to eat cake (bid on some cake and then share with friends).

- Explore Chatanika Dredge: The history of the design and fabrication of the buckets for the gold dredges is as interesting and significant as that of the dredges themselves, but rarely known. This event will include a history lesson and an examination of different bucket types, along with a time to walk among almost 100 buckets, photograph them and enjoy appetizers and drinks.
- International dinner for four at the home of filmmaker Len Kamerling
- Carve a small European wooden folkcraft with artist Phil Marshall and tour his studio, where a large selection of hand tools, books and creations are on display. Coffee and cake will be provided.
- Four-hour bookmaking session for you and a friend with artists Klara and Mary Maisch. Delicious snacks and all the materials needed will be provided.
- A Brianna Reagan original! Artist Brianna Reagan will be painting LIVE throughout the gala evening racing the clock to complete a painting and our guests get to see the process! The finished piece will be up for bid at the outcry auction and, being the Golden Anniversary Celebration, we can expect lots of gold in her work of art!
In addition to these fantastic outcry items, guests will also find gift certificates to favorite local businesses, a delicious dessert auction, silent auction featuring various goods and an art sale!

Beginner Aerial Silks Adults

No experience necessary! This class is the perfect way to spark your aerial silks fire! We start with the basic maneuvers in a 1 Coach to 8 Student (max) hands-on course. You will get the “hang” of the foundational concepts and start progressive into a dynamic series of moves that will be sure to wear you out, in a good way!
Beginner Aerial Silks Youth (age 7 and up)

Eco-printing on Silk with Leaves
Instructor: Ann Wood O’Brien

Learn to print with leaves and other plant material directly onto silk scarves.
Participants will produce 1 wearable, leaf-printed scarf during class and begin another that can be finished at home. No experience necessary.
Mitered Square Scarf Knitting
Instructor: Susan Miller

Play with color mixing while knitting a stylish scarf. This class is appropriate for all levels – first half hour will include a knitting basics tutorial or refresher for those who need it. Techniques included: casting on, knit stitch, decreases, and picking up stitches.
Needle Felt Embellishment Class

In this two-hour class you will learn how to embellish garments, tote bags, or other fabric items with wool and other fibers to create a unique piece of art. All materials included.

Watercolor and Wine

This concept is all about painting watercolor in a relaxed setting while enjoying your favorite beverage. Includes all supplies and even your first glass of wine or beer! Leave with a finished Denali and Fireweed painting, no experience necessary.

A little bit of history:
In 1965, a small group of art lovers began meeting to discuss ways to grow and deepen the appreciation of the arts in Alaska. The Alaska Association for the Arts (AAA) was established a year later and was originally chaired by Geneva Emmal and featured well-known Fairbanksans such as Jo Scott, the founder of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. As the only arts association in the state, the AAA board was the driving force behind the establishment of the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the construction of the Alaskaland Civic Center (now known as Pioneer Park’s Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts). With the successful establishment of a state arts council, Alaska Association for the Arts was able to focus its efforts on the Interior and became Fairbanks Arts Association in 1983.
Over the last 50 years, Fairbanks Arts Association has opened cultural doors in Fairbanks and the Interior through its sponsorship and organization of both local and touring theatrical, musical and dance performances (including the first operas and ballets in the area), arts classes, arts exhibitions and varied educational outreach programs. Fairbanks Arts plays a central leadership role in the arts community, providing opportunities and resources for artists and organizations, and enhancing lives by offering quality, accessible arts experiences that work toward the collective cultural and artistic strength of Interior Alaska.
