Although Alaska is a large state, it is possible for us to form rich connections; one such way is through a shared reading experience.

Alaska Reads is a new statewide reading initiative and biannual event that will feature a work centered on some aspect of Alaskan life and culture written by a living Alaskan writer.

We ask you to share in the first Alaska Reads selection, Blonde Indian by Tlingit author, Ernestine Hayes of Juneau.

Thanks to the Alaska Center for the Book, the Alaska Humanities Forum, the Alaska State Library, and the Rasmuson Foundation, Ernestine Hayes will travel to sixteen different towns around the state during the month of February, meeting people in informal settings, taking questions and entering into conversations about Blonde Indian.

These activities begin in February, so be sure to get your copy soon! Blonde Indian, An Alaska Native Memoir is available at Fairbanks Arts Association’s Bear Gallery Gift Shop, at the public library or as an e-book. 

Ernestine Hayes will visit Fairbanks February 21-22, 2016 but there will be opportunities to discuss the book before she arrives!
