Thomas Payer

Visions of Alaska

Z sea lions horizon

Having lived in Alaska for over 30 years Tom is trying to provide others with a taste of the Alaska lifestyle he loves through his photographs and the images created from them.
Tom has been fortunate to have experienced the Alaskan dream…life in a small, remote cabin, hauling water, hunting and trapping. A dog team provided him with winter transportation and a means to haul supplies. Living by modest means brings you closer to the land and gives you a greater insight in to why we live in Alaska.
He has put together a collection of photos and images that he hopes best represents the spirit of Alaska and it’s inhabitants. Alaska has a rich history and heritage that he hopes he can share with you through his work.

Mareca Guthrie

The Days are Long, the Years are Short

Mareca Guthrie_Cabbage

Gretchen Rubin made the observation that “the days are long, but the years are short.” Babies grow up, loved ones grow old, and with the wisdom of hindsight we realize that quiet moments of domestic life are often the most valuable. This body of work is a celebration of family life: portraits of family, food, friends, and pets.

Mareca Guthrie was born and raised in Fairbanks. She graduated from Carleton College in 2003 and received her MFA from CalArts in 2007. Mareca is an assistant professor of art at UAF and the curator of the fine arts collection at the UA Museum of the North.
