The Reading Series include individual literary writers as well as some special groups of writers such as Community Writers, EGO, the English Graduate Organization at UAF and Writers' League. All readings take place on the first Saturday of the month at the Bear Gallery in Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts in Pioneer Park at 7 pm. See calendar for upcoming readings. Writing In the Dark Retreat is an annual event designed to give literary artists the chance to meet one another, derive inspiration from a guest speaker, and engage in workshop activities that focus on developing new writing skills. It takes place in January in the beautiful setting of Four Winds Foundation. Location donated for the retreat by Debra Chestnut.

The Statewide Poetry Contest is a annual contest that encourages, publicizes and rewards the writing of high quality poetry. Submissions for the contest are accepted in Feburary and winners will be celebrated at the BEAR GALLERY during Art EXPO. Please see the community page for more details on Art EXPO.

The Annual Dredge Poetry Festival, held in April, takes place at Chatanika Gold Dredge owned by Patricia Peirsol and Jane Haigh. Every year the Literary Arts Committee chooses a theme to which people select and read poetry. The April 2010 event is dedicated to Marjorie Cole, one if the founders of the event. The Annual Dredge Poetry Festival is from 2pm-5pm, 29-mile Steese Highway (Chatanika Dredge).

The Fairbanks Community Writers Group is a an open group that invites
individuals interested in writing to share with their experiences.
They meet once a month on Sunday afternoon in the Bear Gallery.

The Literary Arts Comittee meets every third Monday of the month. Meetings are open to anyone interested in the Literay Arts. Please see the calendar for the next meeting time.
