The Bear Gallery opened its doors at the same time as Alaska 67, the Alaska themed park at 2300 Airport Way which was then Alaskaland and now Pioneer Park. The Bear Gallery has been a primary venue for fine art in Fairbanks. FAA has a relationship with the Fairbanks North Star Borough to run the public art gallery.
In the past, FAA has closed the gallery for a day or two for smoke or issues with plumbing in the building, but never before has the gallery been closed for a month. The roof of the Centennial Center for the Arts in Pioneer Park has long needed repair. This month, a complete overhaul is taking place and the gallery is a central point for the construction. To protect the art from sawdust and rain, the gallery is closed until Sept. 28 for intake for the 64th Parallel Annual Juried Art Exhibition.
Jennifer Cameron’s exhibition, which was to appear, will be moved to a later date. Scheduled meetings and rehearsals are still being held at alternate locations in the building and in Pioneer Park. Please call Carey @ 456-6485 ext. 226 to confirm your event.
